Software Q&A

General Questions

Does CivilTech software work for Windows Vista?
If you have USB version, it works with any new Windows operation system including Vista. If you have Code version, which is released several years ago, it may not work with Vista. You can update to our new USB key version. The USB key is a jump drive, which is standard USB equipment and always compatible with any future operation system.

Can I buy CivilTech Software from other place?
No! You should buy software only from CivilTech. Due to the popularity of our software, there are some groups that have tried to pirate our software and sell it. Not only are these copies illegal, but they will also provide erroneous results. CivilTech is not responsible for these copies. In addition, they cannot be upgraded and do not include technical support.

How do I know if there is an updated version of my software?
We post all the new updated version numbers in the Home page. If you find that your version is older than the version posted, you can download the new version from download page. Version numbers can be found in the Help/About menus in your program.

AllPile Questions

How many piles per group can Allpile handle?
Almost an unlimited number of piles. For example, it can handle 100 piles in a group. But it should be an even number.

Can Allpile handle an odd number of piles such as 5, 7, or 9 piles?
Allpile can only handle an even number of piles, such as 2, 4, 6, 8, 10…but it can also handle 1 pile, and 3 piles.

How many layers of soil can I input?
Up to 10 layers of soil. If you have more than 10 layers of soil, you need to combine two or three similar layers to one layer.

Here are some examples: If you have the following layers:
2m thick with SPT=5, 3m thick with SPT=12, 1m thick with SPT=7.
You can combine them into one layer: 6m thick with SPT=(5x2+12x3+7x1)/6=8.8

Shoring Questions

Why are the pressure diagrams different in Results and Diagram? (Shoring module)
The pressure diagrams in Diagram have multiplied by the spacing. It is a net pressure combined both active and passive pressure.

How can I see the shear, moment, and deflection data in the report? (Shoring module)
In page D, check Item 21 box, the shear, moment, and deflection data will be shown in the report. Uncheck the box to hide the data in the report.

If bedrock is uncounted at shallow depth, how can I make it work? (Shoring module)
In page D, Item 9, you can select the fixed embedment option and input a fixed embedment.
1. For cantilever wall: the system may be not stable. The pile may rotate at pile tip. Solution: Pile should penetrate the rock 2 to 3 feet, and use passive pressure = 5ksf to 10 ksf for bedrock. Select option 1.Yes, in Item 9 of page D.
2. For one-braced wall: the method above for cantilever wall can be used. (Select option 1.Yes, in Item 9 of page D). If you select option 3. Fixed in Item 9 of page D, the program will tell the F.S. of the system. If the F.S < 1, then friction at pile tip should be inputted (Item 11).
3. For multiple-braced wall: you can select option 3. Fixed in Item 9 of page D, the program can shift passive pressure to the last brace to satisfy the force and moment equilibriums.

In Shoring module, page B, pressure input, if I do not know the pile length, how can I input Z2 and P2 for a pressure? (Shoring module)
If you do not know the pile embedment, you can input Z2 = 800 for unknown depth. The program will calculate the pile embedment. P2 is inputted based on Z2 = 800 and pressure slope. If you have inputted slope of the pressure, P2 is automatically calculated by program. Please refer page B, Item 3.

What is purpose of the general module? (General module)
The general module does not do any calculation. It has the following functions:
1. Input some data once and send to each modules to save time
2. Change units and user’s information
3. Save project file for each modules (Optional)
