Shoring Questions

After I worked with one module, I cannot find the other modules.
You can go to top manual and click View/All Modules. It opens all modules. You can also open the general module and find many options in Item 9, or go to page B to open each module.

Can users save the files of each module together?
Users can save files in each module individually. Alternatively, users can save project file in General module, which will save all files of each module together. However, the project file keeps only the location and name of each module files, and does not actually save the data. If users move or delete one module file, the project file loses the module file. It is recommended to save files individually for each module.

Where to change unit?
In General module, Page A, Item 6. Once you select unit, the entire 4 modules use the same unit.
In most condition, the force is in kip or kN; the length, diameter, or depth is feet or m,
Except deflection is in. or cm; unit weight is pcf or kN/m3.

What Factor of Safety should be inputted? Where to input?
There are two places to input F.S. You only need to input one place.
1. In Earthpres module, Page E, Options, Item 4 and 5, you can input Factor for both active and passive pressures. If soil parameters are allowable, you do not input additional factors. For example, a soil has allowable friction =30 and ultimate friction=38. When you input friction=30, you do not need input additional factors. The output pressures are allowable pressures.

2. In Shoring module, Page D, Options, Item 15, you can input F.S. It only applies to passive pressures and increase pile embedment. It does not affect active pressure.
If the pressures are allowable, you do not input F.S. If the pressures are ultimate, you need input F.S. A typical value of 1.5 is commonly used for temporary shoring.

Whether the soil parameters or pressures are allowable, please check with your geotechnical engineers.
